Landscape Change: 1992-2011:


This interactive map allows users to view the land cover characteristics of Cimarron County, OK and Union County, NM in 1992 and 2011, respectively. Users can move the slide bar to the left or right to view the land cover composition from each year, respectively. Users may also search for specific locations by typing in an address or other geographic identifier into the search box. The map also includes basic navigation, such as zooming in and out, panning, and returning to intial extent.


Land cover datasets are reclassified data from the National Land Cover Database.


Land Tenure and Landscape Change: 1992-2011:

Land cover datasets are reclassified data from the National Land Cover Database. Land tenure is based on the Oklahoma Protected Areas Database and the Protected Areas Database of the United States.

Cimarron County - After the Dust Bowl:


This Story map, produced by students at in Dr. Vadjunec’s field course at Oklahoma State University, uses historical and repeat ground photography along with map data to document changes throughout Cimarron County from the Dust Bowl days to the present.


Surviving No Man's Land: Cimarron County's Land Ownership History:


This Story Map presents historical plats to show the land ownership history of Cimarron County. The plats were obtained for 1931, 1946, 1954, 1963, 1983, 1998, 2007, and 2014 from a variety of sources. The plats were scanned, georeferenced, and ultimately digitized in a GIS to show how ownership patterns in Cimarron County have changed over the decades.
